America's Most Dangerous Cities
Have you ever wondered what the most dangerous cities in America were? Are you concerned that your city may be on the list? The graphic above illustrates where some of the most dangerous cities are in terms of violent crimes. This information is compiled from the New York Times Almanac which tracks population statistics both in the USA and all over the world.
The crimes in this study are murder, rape, assault and robbery with the statistics measuring the number of incidents per 100,000 people. Although the results of such studies cannot be used to make a definitive judgment about life in these cities, it can be an indicator of trends in violent crime in these areas. For example, Myrtle Beach, SC, is a vacation destination for thousands each year, but it falls in the top ten of the listed cities for violent crimes. So, while it may be a nice place to visit, you may not want to live there.
Additionally, you may find that your city is not on this list, but this measures crime per capita, not just the number of crimes committed. New York, Detroit and Chicago probably have more robberies than Fairbanks, AK, but due to a much smaller population, the percentage of these crimes committed within this Fairbanks is much greater.
A question to readers: does this change where you'd like to live in the future?
