If you weren't already aware, the Internet is in an uproar over a pair of proposed bills in the US House and Senate. SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) both target the freedom of information on the Internet in an overarching attempt to protect copyrighted material. These bills would give the government and law enforcement the power to shut down websites if they display or even link to any copyrighted media. In addition, this would set a dangerous precedent for future bills that would serve to further restrict the Internet.

These bills must be stopped if we wish the Internet to remain a place where basic freedoms are upheld. Everyone needs to do their part and join the protest to raise awareness of SOPA and PIPA. The easiest way is to change your online avatars. Simply change your picture on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks to the image above or something similar.
