In the 1920s women had just earned the right to vote. This was the first generation of women liberated enough to wear a bunch of makeup, have casual sex, smoke, and drive. They also drank, which was more shocking since it was illegal at the time. Coming out of the Victorian era, these women seemed wild and carefree.
