How to Make Your July 4th Cookout Healthy

Strawberry-Coconut Daiquiri 1 of 9

The 4th of July is known for fireworks, midday swims and parades. Unfortunately, it's also known for cheeseburgers, brats, potato chips, ice cream and a whole wealth of greasy, fatty junk food. So how can you clean up your Independence Day meal? Make these easy substitutions for a summer bash that won't destroy that bikini bod.

First, let's take care of the alcohol. Cool down during your 4th of July cookout with this refreshing cocktail. This daiquiri, which only has 112 calories per glass, can easily be made by blending:

  • 2 1/2 cups of strawberries
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of lime juice
  • 3 cups of ice cubes
  • 3/4 cup of coconut-flavored rum

For a nonalcoholic version, omit the rum and add 1/2 cup additional strawberries. You'll feel like you're on a tropical getaway right in your backyard with this fat-free, perfect-for-summer drink.
