Reasons Your Period Could Be Late

Stress 1 of 10

If you are going through a particularly stressful time, it can affect your body in many ways, including delaying your period. The reason for this is that excess stress can affect the hypothalamus, the part of your brain that controls hormone release. Stress or anxiety around the time you are due to ovulate may cause delayed ovulation, so your period, which normally occurs 14 days later, is also late. Once your stress levels are under control, your period should get back to its regular schedule.
