The Career of Snoop Dogg AKA Snoop Lion

Early Life 1 of 9

Snoop Dogg AKA Snoop Lion was born as Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. on October 20, 1971. He was given the nickname "Snoop" by his mother, who thought he resembled Snoopy from the 'Peanuts' comic strip. He began his musical career at a young age by playing the piano, and in high school he formed a hip-hop group called '213' with his friend Warren Griffin and brother Nate Dogg.

Unfortunately, Snoop had a rough childhood due to his parents' separation and ended up joining the Los Angeles gang, the Crips. He had a number of run-ins with the law and was arrested on drug-related charges after leaving high school.
