Why is the Hollywood Walk of Fame So Famous?

Getting a Star Slide 1 of 10

Getting on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is not as cut-and-dry as being the most famous actor and getting your name plastered on a star. The Walk's committee annually selects between 20 and 24 honorees from hundreds of submitted applications. There are five possible categories for a celebrity to earn a star: motion pictures, radio, television, recording, and live performance/theater.

In order to earn the prestigious opportunity, celebrities have to follow some rules. First, the entertainer (or studio, record label, etc.) has to pay $30,000. The money goes to the cost of the star-naming ceremony, star construction, and continued maintenance of the Walk of Fame. Additionally, an application with the star's signed guarantee that he/she will attend the ceremony (to be scheduled within the following five years) must be submitted.
