According to a ranking by The Citizen's Council for Public Security and Justice, New Orleans has the 21st highest murder rate in the world, with a murder rate of 57.88 per 100,000 people.

  • St. Louis, Missouri in 43rd place -- murder rate of 35.39 (113 homicides out of a population of 319,294)
  • Baltimore, Maryland in 48th place -- murder rate of 31.40 (195 homicides out of a population of 620,961)
