What Were the Biggest Grammy Album of the Year Fails?

1970: Blood Sweat & Tears - 'Blood, Sweat & Tears' 1 of 11

Other Nominees:

  • The Beatles - 'Abbey Road'
  • Crosby, Stills and Nash - 'Crosby, Stills and Nash'
  • Johnny Cash - 'At San Quentin'
  • The 5th Dimension - 'The Age of Aquarius'

Verdict: Without mentioning all of the albums released in 1969 that have stood the test of time to become genuine classics where 'Blood, Sweat & Tears' has not, let's just mention one: 'Abbey (Freakin') Road.'

The idea that anybody should have beaten The Beatles for any "best of" awards at any point is ridiculous. With that said, Johnny Cash and Crosby, Stills and Nash are all rock and roll legends in their own rights; and 'Crosby, Stills, and Nash' and 'At San Quentin' are timeless albums. The Beatles losing out to them would have been unfortunate, but not unthinkable. However, one of the most brilliant, beloved albums of all time losing to Blood, Sweat & Tears is a travesty great enough to make heads explode.
