Which Celebs Announced a Hiatus at the Top of Their Game?

Ryan Gosling 1 of 11

March 25, 2013

Last week, headlines spread like wildfire across the internet that Ryan Gosling will soon be taking an acting hiatus.

Once the millions of fawning women and dudes with guy crushes regained their collective breath, they read on to find out exactly why the Academy Award-nominated actor, heartthrob, musician, real-life superhero and king of the internet would be taking a break. Gosling has said, “I’ve been doing it too much. I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.”

After starring in the upcoming 'The Place Beyond the Pines' and 'Only God Forgives,' directing the film 'How To Catch A Monster,' and appearing in a yet-to-be-titled Terrence Malick film, Ryan Gosling's film itinerary is totally clear. However, as evidenced by other stars who announced a hiatus while at the top of their game, breaks from Hollywood sometimes don't last as long as originally intended.
