Hemlock is one of the most famous poisonous plants. It is the plant that was responsible for killing Socrates. It only takes a small amount of the plant to cause symptoms such as stomach cramps and vomiting and more importantly, systematic paralysis of the central nervous system and muscles which leads to death. Water Hemlock is a related species and has been named by the USDA the "most violently toxic plant that grows in North America".
