Ancient Loaf of Bread 1 of 16

When Mount Vesuvius erupted nearly 2000 years ago, the ancient Roman city of Pompeii and its people were buried under 13 to 20 feet of ash and pumice. When the town was dug up more than a thousand years later, incredible discoveries were made, including this loaf of bread -- which was put in an oven in AD79 and not removed until the 1930s. It even still has the name stamp of the slave who baked it.
