15 Famous Objects That Are Cursed

Delhi Purple Sapphire 1 of 16

Ironically, the Delhi Purple Sapphire is actually not a sapphire -- it's actually just a large amethyst. This gemstone has a long and bloody history, from when it originally was stolen from the Temple of Indra to when it was placed in the London Natural History Museum. The last known owner Edward Heron-Allen instructed that the gemstone be given to the museum after his death along with this warning, "Whoever shall then open it, shall first read out this warning, and then do as he pleases with the jewel. My advice to him or her is to cast it into the sea."
