Most Incredible Real-Life Prison Escapes

Alcatraz 1962 1 of 16

Movies and TV are filled with people breaking out of prison in all sorts of amazing ways. What is even more amazing is that many people have actually managed to do it in real life with their own ingenious plans that actually worked!

Perhaps the most famous prison break of all time was accomplished by three men who broke out of Alcatraz, the most secure prison on the planet. Frank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence Anglin tunneled through their cell walls and left behind papier mache dummies made with real hair to fool the guards. Next, they climbed out a vent in the ceiling and down 50 foot of piping before escaping on a raft made out of raincoats. The prisoners were never seen again, so nobody knows if they survived the 1.5 mile journey across the bay to San Francisco. Mythbusters says it was possible, though!
