The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has a loophole that allows companies to add new ingredients to their products that are "generally recognized as safe" without passing inspection. One of the most dangerous food additives that exists is in almost everything that's labeled "sugar free". Aspartame is about 200 times sweeter than sugar, but the body does not consider it as food.
