Tips for Tourists in Puerto Rico

Know the Greetings 1 of 8

The majority in Puerto Rico greet one another - store workers, waitresses, hotel workers, and sometimes others passing by.

  • Say "Buenos dias" [Good morning] during morning time, until about 11 a.m.
  • Say "Buenas tardes" [Good afternoon] from 11 a.m. until about 7 p.m. or until the sun sets. You can also just say "Buenas."
  • Say "Buenas noches" [Good night] from in the evening [when it's dark]. You can also just say "Buenas."

Being greeted feels pretty good, so join in!
