401k Certain 401(k) plans are FDIC insured. In order to qualify, it must be a self-directed 401(k) plan or a self-directed SIMPLE IRA held in the form of a 401(k) plan. The FDIC adds together all eligible retirement owned by the same person at the same insured bank and insures the total amount up to $250,000.
