Are therories tested by how well they describe and predict reality?
Yes, Theories are tested by how well they describe and predict reality. A theory is a coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena such as Einsteins theory of relativity. About Theory of Relativity
The Theory of Relativity was discovered by Albert Einstein and greatly changed the way we think of time, space, and motion. Einstein discovered that these three things are related, rather than separate and show that time moves differently when a person is at different speeds. While people usually talk about Relativity as though it is one theory, it is actually two: The Theory of General Relativity, and The Theory of Special Relativity.
