About Birth Control
Birth control refers to the interception of a female egg and a male sperm so that embryo implantation, resulting in pregnancy, does not occur. Methods that don't require additional contraception include early withdrawal and abstinence.
About Birth Control Pills
Birth control pills prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, or the release of an egg into the ovaries. Birth control pills contain hormones -- estrogen, progestin or both -- which prevent the egg from being released before menstruation. If no egg is released, a sperm cannot join with it. Hense, pregnancy is prevented. There are many different pills, so consult with your doctor to choose one that is right for you.
