About Hubble Space Telescope
The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has changed the way we think about the universe. Since it was sent into orbit on April 24, 1990, it has served as a key space research tool as well as a PR coup for the field of astronomy and for space missions. The telescope itself is designed to be serviced in space by astronauts. Four missions were performed between 1993 and 2002, but a fifth one was canceled for safety reasons shortly after the disaster involving the Space Shuttle Columbia. One final mission was completed in 2009.
