Can star nose moles breathe under water?
Although Condylura cristata, the star-nosed mole, prefers to live near water, it is a mammal with lungs designed to take oxygen from the air and cannot actually breathe water. Taking oxygen from water requires gills, which no mammal has.

About Water
Water is by far the most important substance on Earth. Water covers over 70 percent of the planet and makes up between 50 and 75 percent of the human body. In fact, it's one of the only things we are positive needs to be present for life to exist. When scientists look for life in our solar system and on exoplanets, they are looking for liquid water.
