Can the courts garnish wages of an independent contractor if the contractor has no disposable income?
Companies that hire private contractors or freelancers must file a 1099 form to IRS to report income. Taxes are computed by the 1099 contractors themselves. The employer has no choice but to take settlement out of the paycheck if wages are garnished.
