A baby can be born with HIV or herpes. A mother an pass an HIV infection on to her baby before it is born. A baby can contract herpes during birth if the mother has an active outbreak.

About Herpes
Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1, or most commonly, type 2. Most people show no, or minimal symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. When the symptoms do appear, it’s usually as blisters on or around the genitals and rectum. The blisters soon break, leaving sores that can take up to a month to heal the first time the occur. More outbreaks can occur months after the first, but are usually shorter and less severe. It is still possible to spread herpes between outbreaks. For this reason, it is imperative that persons infected with herpes always take precautions like wearing a condom to prevent the spread of the disease.
