Can you cash a check if you don't have that much in your account?
If you are a long time trusted customer of your bank, they may allow you to cash a check for an amount greater than what you have in your account. Chase Bank will allow you to have access the first hundred dollars of a check on deposit, and the rest when it clears. Thanks for asking ChaCha!
