Can you describe the colored church to which calpurnia takes Jem and scout?
In the book 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee, Maycomb’s black church is an old building, called First Purchase because it was bought with the first earnings of freed slaves. It is where the 'colored' people attended Sunday Christian Services. It was a place where the black community could relax and be themselves. The church has no money for hymnals, and few of the parishioners can read, so they sing by echoing the words that Zeebo, Calpurnia’s eldest son and the town garbage collector, reads from their only hymnal.
