Can you explain what Atticus means by telling Jem not to let his discovery 'inspire' him to 'further glory' and is there any reason to believe why Jem might now do as his father says?

To Kill a Mockingbird is by Harper Lee. When Atticus tells Jem this, it is right after the fire. Jem has been shocked by seeing Mr. Nathan Radley helping at the fire. Atticus doesn't want Jem to futher inquire, seek, or even investigate about Boo Radley. Attacus is always reasonable & Jem is a growing young man who's mind is being defined at that time. As a good father, Attacus guides his son towards the right way so that the boy can grow up a descent man. Whatever Jem has found may cause him harm since they are living in a conservative society where Attacus is not liked by everyone. Attacus is being protective.
