Can you get high off of promethazine?

Rate This Answer

Promethazine is an antihistamine in the phenothiazine family, commonly used for control of nausea and vomiting. It was once commonly used to increase the effects of opioid medications such as morphine and demerol, but its use has fallen out of favor since it was associated with sudden cardiac death by prolonging the QT interval and being linked to cardiac arrhythmias. To answer your question, you will not get high. You may feel sleepy or groggy after taking it, but you will not get "high," per se. You will have a chance of dying, however. If you took enough promethazine I'm sure you would get a weird feeling, or some sort of "high". ChaCha on!
