About Holidays
The word 'holidays' comes from the original of 'holy days.' These days, there are holidays for just about everything, from the serious and religious to the fun and outrageous. Did you know that there is a World UFO day? Well, in case you didn't, it is on July 2. So get out your binoculars and foil hats and head out to Area 51 for a picnic!
About Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and is celebrated during the early fall with the blowing of the shofar (ram's horn) and much celebration.
About Torah
The Torah is the Five Books of Moses—the entirety of Judaism's founding legal and ethical religious texts. The Torah scroll is a copy of the Torah written on parchment on a scroll format. It is written in the traditional manner by a specially trained scribe under strict requirements.
About Hannukah
Hanukkah (or Chanukah) is the Jewish holiday also known as the Festival of Lights. Hanukkah means dedication. The Festival of Lights commemorates the victorious Maccabees who liberated the land of Israel from the Syrian Greeks in 167 B.C.E . The Maccabees rededicated the temple and only had enough oil for one day for the menorah but miraculously the oil lasted 8 days.
