Can you take Plan B while you r on a antibiotic?
Studies clearly show that Rifampin decreases the effectiveness of birth control pills in preventing ovulation. Other antibiotics, particularly penicillin and tetracycline derivatives, could impair the effectiveness of birth control pills in a small percentage of women. Researchers can't rule out this possibility, but no large studies have proved such an effect.

About Plan B
Plan B (full name: Plan B One-Step) is a common form of emergency contraceptive or ''morning-after pill.'' It is a one-pill contraception that women take after having unprotected sex or birth control failure. It can be taken up to 72 hours after intercourse; but the sooner it is taken, the higher the likelihood is it will prevent pregnancy.
About Birth Control Pills
Birth control pills prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, or the release of an egg into the ovaries. Birth control pills contain hormones -- estrogen, progestin or both -- which prevent the egg from being released before menstruation. If no egg is released, a sperm cannot join with it. Hense, pregnancy is prevented. There are many different pills, so consult with your doctor to choose one that is right for you.

About Birth Control
Birth control refers to the interception of a female egg and a male sperm so that embryo implantation, resulting in pregnancy, does not occur. Birth control has been practiced for thousands of years, and there are various methods which have evolved, including birth control pills, patches, and shots, as well as condoms, diaphragms, and birth control rings. Methods that don't require additional contraception include early withdrawal and abstinence.
