He started his undergraduate studies in Los Angeles but soon transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he graduated. He worked for awhile as a community organizer in Chicago, then entered Harvard Law where he was Editor of the Law Review. A stint as an Illinois State Senator, then a U.S. Senator from Illinois, was followed by his nomination and election as President in 2008.
