Did monkeys come before humans?
Monkeys evolved from prosimians during the Oligocene or slightly earlier. They were the first species of our suborder--the Anthropoidea. Humans share a common ancestor with modern African apes, like gorillas and chimpanzees. Scientists believe this common ancestor existed 5 to 8 million years ago.

About Monkeys
Monkeys are generally considered to be intelligent and, unlike apes, monkeys usually have tails. Monkeys range in size from the Pygmy Marmoset, at 5-6 inches long and 4-5 ounces in weight, to the male Mandrill, almost 3.3 feet long and weighing 77 pounds. Some live in trees while others live on the savanna. Diets differ among the various species but may contain any of the following: fruit, leaves, seeds, nuts, flowers, eggs and small animals.
