Do lice come from the ground?

Topics: AnimalsLice, Insects

No. Head lice do not live outdoors, in the ground or air. They are human parasites, and have probably been around as long as humans. In fact, the eggs of lice (nits) have been discovered on the heads of several Egyptian mummies. Head lice are contracted by direct contact with the lice nits, nymphs or adult lice. Adult lice can live for up to two hours on articles of clothing, furniture, pillows, brushes and household items, and the nits, or eggs, can live for a week on such items.
