Does a cat growl only to show aggression?
When territory-based aggression occurs within the home, cats hiss, spit and growl at their housemates. When outright attacks occur the aggressor or dominant cat will be the one that jumps at another cats rear lumbar area. ChaCha!

About Cats
Cats are the most popular pet in the world, perhaps because they require less care than a dog. Cats are relatively independent, but they do form strong attachments to people and places and require a steady routine and a good diet in order to be happy and healthy.
