Followed Da Gama's route but swung so wide around Africa that he touched Brazil?
The Portuguese sought a sea route to India because land travel to Asia for trading was far too cumbersome. They rectified this by sending Vasco de Gama around the southern tip of Africa. He eventually reached India and a trade route was established.
