A hurricane is the North American term for a tropical cyclone that occurs in the North Atlantic or Northeast Pacific Ocean. It is identified as having a low pressure center and a large area of swirling thunderstorms. These gigantic storms gain strength over the ocean and can have devastating effects when they hit land.
About Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, LA on August 29, 2005 and caused 1800 deaths. Eighty per cent of the city was flooded, enormous property damage resulted, and thousands of people fled the city. Many never returned.
