How could a bat use reflections of sound waves to determine the distance to an insect?
Bats along with dolphins, and even humans use echolocation. The emitted sounds bounce off the objects around the bat, and determine the distance by the amount of time it takes the echo to reach their ears. Blind ppl can be taught to use echolocation!
