About Bastille Day
Bastille Day is a French national holiday which marks the beginning of the French Revolution and the storming of Bastille on July 14, 1789. The Bastille was a prison that held seven prisoners at the time, and when it was stormed it symbolized the loss of absolute power of Louis the 16th's Ancient Regime. This signaled liberty and the fight against oppression for all French citizens as well as the eventual creation of the Republic in 1792.
