How did the civil war end?
Hostilities in the Civil War began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate forces attacked a military installation at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. Lincoln responded by calling for a volunteer army from each state to recapture federal property. The Union won when Confederate forces surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
