In 1838, Idian autonomy was struck down by the courts and Indian tribes had to leave the deep South. The Potawatomi, Miami, Shawnee and Seminole did not leave the hills of North Carolina while the Cherokee, Chicksaw, Choctaw and Creek migrated West.
