How did the korean war start?

The Korean war began in 1959 when North Korea, led by Kim Il Sung invaded South Korea along the 38th parallel. Kim Il Sung had always wanted to unite Korea together but under a communist rule. Because of this, Russia supported the invasion but were weary of becoming physically involved due to the fact the second world war had only just ended.
