How did the liberty bell get cracked?
When the bell arrived from England in 1752 and was hung in the State House, it simply cracked the first time the bell was struck.

Though the bell appears mighty, it was thought to be either too brittle or have flaws in its casting which lead to it cracking.

It was made poorly and cracked the 1st time that it was used. The crack is approximately 1/2 inch wide and 24 1/2 inches long.
