How dilated do you have to be for doctors to break your water for you?
A doctor will break your water if your labor progression slows down since doing so will cause the baby's head to push against the cervix therefore speeding up dilation. You must already be in active labor before a doctor will do this since the baby must be born within 24 hours. A doctor will also break your water right away if you have a scheduled induction. Be patient!
