How do bones grow?

Rate This Answer

There are different types of bones. In short, flat, and irregular bones, osteoblasts use calcium and other mineral to build new compact bone. In long bone there are epiphyseal plates. At these plates cartilage is added and then osteoblasts calcify. ChaCha On!

Bones grow or change as long as you live. Parts of your skeleton have lots of cartilage which gets replaced as you got older.

Long bones, like those in your legs and arms, increase in length from growth plates at the end. Bone growth stops at adulthood.
