On the one hand, it allows many officers to let minor offenders off the hook from a legal system that is way too tough on them, but it could also cause many problems like corrupt police officers who are way too tough on minor crime. The law should just be more clear and fair.

I think it enables a good police officer to fail to enforce a law that he feels is unjust. That's a good thing. ChaCha On!

I feel that if they are trained properly and are on the police force then they do have certain discretionary measures they have to take into account while performing their jobs. First and foremost to protect the people they serve and themselves! ChaCha On!
