How do you know if a person has herpies?
Often it's hard to tell by looking. The hallmark of herpes is a group of blisters on a red base: These dry up and leave scabs that last a few days to a few weeks. Oral herpes, usually caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), shows up as cold sores or fever blisters on the mouth.

About Herpes
Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1, or most commonly, type 2. Most people show no, or minimal symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. When the symptoms do appear, it’s usually as blisters on or around the genitals and rectum. The blisters soon break, leaving sores that can take up to a month to heal the first time the occur. More outbreaks can occur months after the first, but are usually shorter and less severe. It is still possible to spread herpes between outbreaks. For this reason, it is imperative that persons infected with herpes always take precautions like wearing a condom to prevent the spread of the disease.
