The first step in making homemade vodka is the purchase or assembly of a home still. Step one is sanitizing all of your equipment with a bleach-and-water mixture. Step two is the creation of a mash. The third step is the distillation process. Step four is filtration. The fifth step is dilution. Your vodka is ready to drink.

Strain the potatoes out of the water by using a fine mesh strainer. You will want to save the water as this is what you will make potato vodka from. You need to put the potato water in to the large pot. Distilling is the means of turning steam back into liquid and this is where you get your potato vodka from. Once you have secured the lid and made sure the hose is tight.

How to make vodka: Step one is sanitizing all of your equipment with a bleach-and-water mixture. Step two is the creation of a mash. Starting from your carbohydrate source - sugar, grain, potatoes - you then proceed to turn these complex sugars into alcohol molecules. For example to make a mash out of grain, add purified water to the grain and heat it for an hour. (More?)

About Vodka
Vodka is one of the world's most popular liquors. It is composed of only water and ethanol which some possible traces of impurities and flavorings. Vodka is made from fermenting grains like rye, wheat, potatoes, grapes, or sugar beet molasses and then distilling the liquor. Vodka usually has a very strong alcohol content by volume (ABV), usually between 30 and 50 percent. The standard Russian, Lithuanian, and Polish vodkas are 40% ABV (80 proof).
