How do you replace and idler pulley for a 1979 Datsun 280zx?

Rate This Answer

The first step to replacing an idler pulley for power steering on a 1979 Datsun 280ZX is to remove the belt. Loosen the nut located in the center of the tensioner pulley and release the tension on the belt by turning the adjusting bolt in a counterclockwise motion. Next, loosen the front power steering pump retaining bolts but don't remove them completely yet .Place a drain pan under the car to catch the power steering fluid, placing a funnel directly under the pump.
