How does a cat purr?
It's a vibration of the larynx resonating down the windpipe and diaphragm. It isn't the result of air moving over the vocal cords.

A cat's purr comes from it's larynx (voice box), controlled by the laryngeal muscles. A neural oscillator is also involved.
