How does a commerical bank differ from a savings and loan association?
Commercial banks engage in merchant banking and private equity financing. Traditionally, large commercial banks also underwrite bonds, and make markets in currency, interest rates, and credit-related securities. Savings and loan associations just provide basic consumer accounts, such as checking and saving. ChaCha!
