How does a mako shark breathe?
As other fishes, sharks breathe by extracting oxygen when seawater pass through their gills.Shark gills are just behind shark head and they are not specially covered like in most fish.Water pass thorough their gills while sharks are swimming making impossible for most of them to stay still as otherwise they would drown. This process is called ram ventilation.

About Gills
Gills are what fish use to breath underwater. They pull dissolved oxygen out of the water the same way we pull oxygen out of the air.
About Sharks
Sharks have fascinated and terrified man for thousands of years. Although 'shark attack' is one of the ways media companies get attention, only 10-15 people are killed by sharks each year, while humans kill over 100 million sharks annually. Many shark populations are threatened with extinction.
